  • Length: Fantastic length, allows him to make a play on the ball even when there’s space created.
  • Footwork: Very quick feet, allows him to keep receiver in front of him.
  • Fluidity: Austin has great hips. He flips them very well in zone and off coverage. It also helps him when playing press coverage at the line of scrimmage. The combination of quick feet and fluidity make him very hard to beat in one on one coverage.
  • Hands: Does a great job of punching the football late and timing it right. Very instinctive player.

  • Durability: Major durability concerns. Even though he played all of his games the first two years of his Rutgers career, he has only played 5 games in the two years since. Especially concerning that he injured the same knee as the first injury.
  • Light frame: Lengthy but built on a light frame. Cannot shed blocks well. Also makes it tough for him when matching up with physical receivers. Surprising strength for light frame, but will need to build body mass. He also lacks physicality, depending on his footwork and fluidity to keep the receiver in front of him.
  • Run Support: Light frame and inability to shed blocks makes him a liability in the run game.

Blessuan Austin could end up being a steal despite only playing one game in the 2018 season. If his injuries were less concerning he would be a 2nd round pick. That means Austin is going to be a great value in the middle to late rounds. At that point he is a low-risk, high-reward prospect who could blossom into a fantastic boundary cornerback if he is able to stay healthy.
